Another masterpiece is delivered by Marie Lu, and trust me when I say that this is her sexiest creation. I mean, Hideo is basically the sexier asian version of Christian Grey *smitten*
Warcross, as the third series of Marie Lu, has all of the goodnesses that her other works have: a compelling well written fast paced book with a kick ass heroine. I, however, wouldn't say it is a fresh idea that just came out of the oven. Personally, I think it combines the best elements of Ready Player One and The Eyes of Minds. The execution, though, like all of Lu’s works, is beyond expectation
There are some twist and turn throughout the book and I love how everything come out layers by layers. The best part of this book, however, lays in its way intriguing ourselves. It touches on modern issues in digital age and the gray area of science and humanity. And apparently, my school teaches the same topic just few weeks ago!
Anyway, Emika, as a main character, has all the qualities you are looking for : intelligence and colourful hair. Although, I don’t really see her development until the very end of the story when she start to open up to her teammates. But how she hack herself in, I think, is another enjoyable performance aside from the Warcross game itself.
The male babe of this book , Hideo, like I’ve previously mentioned, is the sexier asian version of Christian Grey. He’s basically that guilty pleasure type of babe. He’s reserve, quiet, mysterious, cold, and definitely not my type of preference. But at the same time, he’s intelligent and passionate about his works. These qualities not only enable me to relate to him but to love him as well. It's really been a long time since I feel this way to a book character. I know he’s controversial, but at some point, so do I. So, there’s asian Mr. Grey for you.
In the romance division, both Emika and Hideo, despite the lack of screen time together, they have an intense chemistry. There’s some point where I won’t root for this couple, but at the same time I was looking forward the development of their relationship. I found it interesting to see how both of them are equally formidable on their own way and how they have this dynamic when they are working together.
In general, despite all the flaws, I still found myself to be compelled to the world of Warcross and I really enjoy the experiences. This might be me being bias as I've always been a big Marie Lu’s fan *despite being so late at reading this series :’) *. All I can say is, Lu’s Legend is one of the first book that introduce be to all of these : YA and advance reading when I was in middle school. And now, her new series, Warcross, is that one book that make me fall in love with these world all over again
"Everything's science fiction until someone makes it science fact,"- Hideo Tanaka
